Venice, 10–11 November 2026
After more than thirty months of cross-border cooperation, BIOPRESSADRIA is coming to a close. The partners will meet in Venice to share what they have achieved. The final conference, "From coastal biodiversity protection to long-term solutions", is hosted by project partner CORILA, the Consortium for Coordination of Research Activities concerning the Venice Lagoon System. It is co-organised with the Lead Partner, the Municipality of Monfalcone.
The project has developed tools and solutions to manage the impact of anthropogenic pressures, (mainly due to beach and nautical tourism) on the marine and coastal habitats of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. These range from eco-friendly moorings to satellite monitoring of nautical pressure, and from beach carrying-capacity studies to shared protocols for assessing seagrass meadows. The work was carried out in five pilot sites: Panzano Bay, Porto Cesareo, Kornati National Park, the Pakleni Islands and Badija, in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. It has produced data, experience and practical lessons, and these are now ready to be shared.
Two days, two perspectives
Day one (Tuesday 10 November) is about the solutions that were tested: eco-friendly moorings, spatial planning, stakeholder engagement and how these approaches can be transferred across the Adriatic, the Ionian and the wider Mediterranean. Presentations will be in English. The day is an opportunity for technical exchange among partners, institutions, protected area managers and coastal operators.
Day two (Wednesday 11 November) is about governance and future cooperation. It features an Italian-Croatian institutional round table and the signing of the BIOPRESSADRIA Network Memorandum of Understanding, a commitment to keep the network active beyond the end of the project. Presentations will be in Italian and Croatian, with simultaneous interpretation between the two languages.
The programme also includes contributions from other Interreg projects, building a shared vision for the blue economy and the protection of the marine environment.
