How can digital innovation transform the way we experience archaeological heritage? The new ARCHAEODIGIT promotional video offers a glimpse into the answer, showcasing the Joint Pilot Action implemented at the Archaeological Park of Sepino, in Molise, Italy.
Bringing the past closer through digital innovation
Known in Roman times as Saepinum, the ancient city of Sepino preserves remarkable traces of its past. Its archaeological remains include monumental city gates, defensive walls, the forum and public buildings, offering valuable insights into urban life during the Roman period.
Through the ARCHAEODIGIT project, digital and “phygital” solutions are being developed to offer visitors new, engaging and interactive ways to discover archaeological heritage. These approaches help bring the site's history closer to the public, encouraging visitors to explore its remains and better understand their historical and cultural significance.
The Sepino pilot action demonstrates how digital innovation can support the interpretation and promotion of archaeological sites, creating new opportunities to connect historical evidence, archaeological research and public engagement.
Connecting archaeology, digital innovation and the public
Digital technologies offer new possibilities for making archaeological heritage more accessible, interactive and engaging, extending the visitor experience beyond traditional approaches to site interpretation.
Through its pilot actions, ARCHAEODIGIT explores how innovative digital experiences can help different audiences connect with the past while supporting more inclusive and sustainable cultural tourism across the Adriatic region.
The experience developed at the Archaeological Park of Sepino is part of the project's wider effort to demonstrate how digital innovation, capacity building and new management strategies can contribute to the protection, interpretation and valorisation of archaeological heritage.
