MEMORY ESCAPE: partners meet in Bertinoro to review progress and plan the next steps

13/10/2026

On 30 September and 1 October 2026, MEMORY ESCAPE partners met in Bertinoro for the project’s second transnational meeting, hosted by the Municipality of Bertinoro. Representatives of Labin, Bertinoro, ATRIUM and Kalimera reviewed progress and coordinated the next steps towards the two phygital escape room experiences.

Following historical research and co-design workshops involving 39 young people in the two territories, the project is now turning the ideas and scenarios developed together into physical and digital game components.

Kalimera presented progress on the interactive puzzles and functional prototypes, which combine heritage locations, historical content, QR codes and physical clues. Partners also had the opportunity to try part of the Bertinoro experience, exploring how digital gameplay connects with the historical narrative.

ATRIUM presented a revised proposal for the Digital Asset Library: a digital exhibition space where visitors will be able to explore the documents, photographs and objects behind the games. The proposed exhibitions focus on work under dictatorship, including migration, and leisure time, connecting broader historical themes with the local contexts of Bertinoro and Labin.

The discussions also addressed how to introduce and conclude the games, providing historical context and encouraging players to reflect critically on the past.

Partners reviewed the development of replicable game materials and a shared technical manual. These resources will provide guidance for installing and operating the escape rooms, while supporting the adaptation of the project’s approach to other heritage contexts.

The next steps include completing the prototypes, preparing the physical game materials and finalising the supporting documentation. Pilot testing with young people is planned for early 2027, followed by Game Master training to support the continued operation of the experiences.

Co-funded by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, MEMORY ESCAPE brings together partners from Italy and Croatia to engage young people with dissonant heritage through exploration, play and interactive learning.
