As a result of long-standing cooperation between the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas of Dubrovnik-Neretva County and stakeholders in the Neretva Delta area – specifically the Municipality of Zažablje – an Addendum to the Agreement on the Conservation and Protection of the Neretva River Valley was signed in the Municipality of Zažablje on October 7, 2026.
This Addendum was signed to facilitate further coordination regarding the conservation and protection of the Neretva River Valley’s wetlands and biodiversity, with a particular focus on climate change and the implementation of climate change mitigation activities.
Stakeholders play a vital role due to their knowledge of the area, its values, and the threats it faces; their experience, opinions, and daily activities within the target area significantly influence the Neretva River Valley region. Cooperation on project and educational activities, professional training, investment in visitor infrastructure, the valorization and interpretation of protected natural assets, efforts toward the early detection and prevention of reedbed fires and fire suppression in protected areas, and the eradication of invasive flora and fauna species are just some of the additional activities included in the Agreement—specifically within the action plan addendum agreed upon with the stakeholders.
