The BARCOLANA regatta brings thousands of sailors and enthusiasts to Trieste every year is the setting for the communication event of BIOPRESSADRIA, the Interreg Italy-Croatia project led by the Municipality of Monfalcone to protect seagrass meadows from unregulated anchoring.
The programme
11:30 am – Opening and project presentation. Alongside the lead partner, the Croatian NGO SUNCE, SELC, CORILA, Kornati National Park and the public institutions managing the protected area of Dubrovnik-Neretva County (PIDNC) will attend.
4:00 pm – Launch of the BIOPRESSADRIA APP and of the digital platform for sharing cartographic data.
An app for those who go to sea
Free for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, the app brings the maps of the WebGIS platform on board. When a boat approaches a sensitive area, it gives a visual and audible alert and suggests the nearest eco-mooring buoy field or suitable seabed. The map is organised in thematic layers, and each of the five pilot sites between Italy and Croatia has a fact sheet with the local rules and data on the condition of the meadows.
It is designed primarily for recreational boaters, but also for nautical and tourism operators, managing authorities, schools and citizens. No registration is required: alerts only need GPS and location permission.
