Official Launch of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC)

05/10/2026

The ARCHAEODIGIT project (ARChaeological DIGITal Paths for an Inclusive and Sustainable Tourism) is pleased to announce the official launch of its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): Archaeological Heritage and Sustainable Tourism, now available on our dedicated Moodle Cloud e-learning platform.

This initiative represents a significant milestone in the project’s implementation phase and a concrete step forward in testing and validating innovative training solutions aimed at enhancing the management, interpretation, and digital communication of archaeological heritage.

Objectives of the Course

Designed to address one of the key challenges in the cultural sector—bridging the gap between traditional archaeological preservation and the modern experience economy—the training path aims to:

  • Improve the management of cultural heritage: Providing theoretical frameworks on cultural landscapes, UNESCO World Heritage, and visitor flow management.
  • Enhance digital communication skills: Translating complex archaeological research into engaging experiences using tools like AR, VR, podcasting, and social media.
  • Foster sustainable tourism models: Introducing learners to destination branding, heritage economics, and EU structural funds.

An Integrated and Accessible Learning Experience

To achieve these objectives, the course is structured into an introductory section ("Lessons on archaeological management") and 3 thematic modules, covering everything from key international conventions (Faro, Malta) to the enhancement of tangible and intangible heritage. Furthermore, it features a special bonus section focusing on storytelling projects on three archaeological parks.

Participants will have access to 20 hours of video content, developed jointly by our academic partners, alongside lesson texts, multimedia resources, and dedicated quizzes. Rather than replacing traditional academic study, this digital format provides an accessible, flexible layer of training, allowing users from all over the world to follow the lessons at their own pace from any device.

Certification and Digital Badge

The MOOC also demonstrates the potential of e-learning to make professional capacity building more accessible. Participants who successfully complete all modules and pass the Final Quiz will automatically receive the official ARCHAEODIGIT Digital Badge. This certification validates the acquisition of cross-disciplinary competences in archaeological heritage management, sustainable tourism, and digital communication. Registration is completely free and open to all.
