Art and biodiversity on the Ravenna coast: the ACTION project murals
13/09/2026
The ACTION project, funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 programme, brings street art to the Ravenna coast. The aim is to raise awareness of the biodiversity of coastal habitats and of why they need protecting. Both works are part of the activities of the CLAC – Local Climate Adaptation Centre, set up by the project to engage citizens on environmental health.
Marina di Ravenna: the whale, the lighthouse and the turtle
On 29 July, the mural by artist Andrea D'Ascanio, known as Sardomuto, was inaugurated in via Molo Dalmazia, on a building of the Ravenna Port Authority. The original work is ten years old: it shows the whale and the lighthouse, two symbols of Marina di Ravenna's identity, and it has now been restored. It also features a new sea turtle, a tribute to coastal biodiversity and to the work of the nearby Cestha centre in rescuing marine species. A paper plane seems to guide the turtle towards the sea.
"Coming back after ten years was wonderful: over time the lines change, and so does the place," said the artist.
Artistic direction is by Marco Miccoli – Bonobolabo. The work was made possible thanks to the Port Authority, the Pro Loco of Marina di Ravenna and the organisers of La Cozza Selvaggia. It is also part of the programme of Ravenna Italian Capital of the Sea 2026.
Porto Corsini: "Transitional Waters"
On the IAT building in Porto Corsini, the collective Luogo Comune presents "Transitional Waters" ("Acque di transizione"). The work is dedicated to the brackish waters of the Piallassa, where fresh water meets salt water. It is split into three parts, on via Po, via della Pineta and via Lamone. Panels with colour gradients recall the changing water and salinity. Within them, white silhouettes of local animals and plants emerge, like traces of life forms that risk disappearing.
The result is a true visual archive of the Piallassa's biodiversity: an invitation to get to know it and to become aware of its fragility.
