Risk and Territory: Moving from Knowledge to Action

On September 23, 2026, the historic Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste in Ravenna hosted the conference "Rischio e territorio: dalla conoscenza all'azione" (Risk and Territory: From Knowledge to Action).
Organized by Municipality of Ravenna, as part of the STRENGTH project, the event proved to be a great success, bringing together over 50 participants, including scientific experts, local administrators, engaged citizens, and civil protection volunteers.
The conference focused on territorial resilience, disaster preparedness, and proactive risk management.
Following the opening remarks, Stefano Ravaioli (Municipality of Ravenna) introduced the objectives and key findings of the STRENGTH project.
Researchers from the University of Ferrara - Paolo Ciavola and Marco Faggioli - presented detailed analyses on coastal storm surge flood scenarios as well as structural vulnerability assessments of buildings along the Lamone River, focusing on the Mezzano case study.
In addition, GECOsistema showcased the SaferPlaces platform, illustrating how pluvial flood mapping can directly support emergency decision-making.
The presentations led into an engaging round table discussion exploring concrete intervention and prevention strategies to address the region's vulnerabilities.
The active dialogue among technical experts, public authorities, and community members highlighted the vital importance of bridging scientific research with frontline action.
