MEMORY ESCAPE presented at the 15th Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes in Yerevan

The MEMORY ESCAPE – Adriatic Memory Escape: A phygital tool for engaging youth with dissonant heritage (ITHR0700989) project, co-funded by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, was presented at the 15th Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, held in Yerevan, Armenia, from 23 to 25 September 2026.
On 24 September, John Patrick Leech, member of the ATRIUM Scientific Committee, presented MEMORY ESCAPE during the thematic session “Enhancing Education for Heritage through Digital Tools: Opportunities and Challenges”.
His contribution, entitled “Engage young people in the co-creation of physical and digital experiences of awareness of the dissonant heritage”, focused on ATRIUM’s experience in engaging young people in the interpretation of dissonant heritage through participatory approaches and the co-creation of physical and digital experiences.
The presentation also placed MEMORY ESCAPE within ATRIUM’s broader work on the critical interpretation of dissonant heritage. As a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, ATRIUM brings to the project its experience and perspective on engaging with the complex legacies of Europe’s twentieth-century history through research, education and participatory practices.
In this context, MEMORY ESCAPE represents a new opportunity to explore how digital and participatory tools can support this work, transforming historical sources and local stories into experiences that invite young people to actively engage with the past.
The Forum provided an important opportunity to share the MEMORY ESCAPE experience within the wider Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe network and to contribute to the discussion on heritage education, digital tools and youth engagement.
