Info Days in Macerata: discovering archaeology through digital innovation

14/09/2026

Four free guided Info Days brought visitors closer to the archaeological heritage of Helvia Ricina in Macerata, combining history, cultural heritage and digital innovation.

From 4 to 12 September 2026, the archaeological area of Helvia Ricina in Macerata (Italy) hosted a series of four ARCHAEODIGIT Info Days, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the remains of this ancient Roman colony through a new and more engaging experience.

The initiative was organised as part of the ARCHAEODIGIT project, and provided an opportunity to showcase one of the concrete results of the project's pilot action.

Discovering Helvia Ricina through new digital tools

During the guided visits, participants explored the archaeological area and discovered the remains of the ancient Roman theatre, while experiencing the new multimedia installation developed within the ARCHAEODIGIT project.

The installation combines historical and cultural content with digital and interactive tools, offering new ways to interpret and experience the archaeological site. By integrating technology into the visitor experience, the pilot action aims to make archaeological heritage more immersive, accessible and inclusive for different audiences.

The Info Days therefore provided not only an opportunity to learn more about the history of Helvia Ricina, but also to experience first-hand how digital technologies can support the valorisation and communication of cultural heritage.

Bringing archaeology closer to the community

The activities highlighted the potential of innovative digital solutions to create new connections between people and archaeological sites. Through a combination of guided interpretation and multimedia content, visitors were encouraged to engage with the heritage of Helvia Ricina from different perspectives and discover new ways of understanding the stories preserved within the archaeological landscape.

The initiative also represents an important step in testing how digital transformation can contribute to more engaging and sustainable cultural tourism experiences, while ensuring that archaeological heritage can be communicated to a wider range of visitors.

The ARCHAEODIGIT Info Days were an opportunity to share the results of the pilot action with the community and demonstrate how innovation and technology can help us see ancient heritage with new eyes.
