From Forest to Sea: bringing itineraries to life through new information points

As the project comes to a close, TOFOLA aims to consolidate the achievements of the past few years and share them with those expressing curiosity about the four project routes through the installation of digital totems and informational panels along the routes.
These new information points make the tourism products developed as part of the project more visible and accessible, helping visitors discover the connections between natural landscapes, cultural heritage, traditional boatbuilding, and local communities.
A total of 18 information points (3 digital totems/info panels and 15 non-digital informative panels) have been installed across the project areas: 3 digital totems and interactive panels in Istria, 8 informative panels along the Veneto Agricoltura route, 4 panels connecting the forests of Carnia with the Marano Lagoon, and 3 panels dedicated to the Po Delta itinerary.
Four routes shaping one shared narrative
The installations follow the four tourism routes developed by TOFOLA, each highlighting the distinctive relationship between forests, waterways and coastal environments.
In Istria, the digital totems and interactive panel present the Motovun Forest – Novigrad – Savudrija route, combining information about the itinerary with local maritime heritage and a 3D model of the traditional batana. The installations are located at the Visitor Centre in Novigrad, the Batana Ecomuseum in Rovinj and the Savudrijska Batana association in Savudrija.
Along the "From Lowland Woods to the Lagoon Areas of Caorle" itinerary, eight panels introduce visitors to the cycling route, its natural and cultural highlights, and its connection to the historic movement of timber along the Livenza River towards the Venetian shipyards.
The four panels dedicated to the Forests of Carnia – Marano Lagoon route tell the story of the historical “water routes of wood”, connecting Alpine forests, rivers and lagoon environments while highlighting traditional forest management and wooden boatbuilding.
Finally, the three installations along the Dunes, Salt Marshes and Shipyards route guide visitors from Bosco Nordio to Porto Levante, connecting the natural landscapes of the Po Delta with the heritage of traditional wooden boats and the LAGUNA shipyard.
Making the routes easier to discover
These information points provide practical and contextual information to help visitors understand the routes, discover points of interest and connect each experience with the wider story of the territory.
Maps, route descriptions, photographs, cultural and environmental information and, where available, digital content and QR codes support visitors in exploring the itineraries independently.
