Final conference successfully feld in Dubrovnik

The final conference of the CYROS project was successfully held in Dubrovnik on August 26th, 2026, bringing together project partners, institutional representatives, tourism and transport stakeholders and members of the media.
CYROS (Implementation, in the Programme Area, of the EUSAIR Flagship and Cross-Pillar Project Idea Adriatic - Ionian Cycle Route for Sustainable Tourism) is a joint initiative co-financed through the Interreg Italy - Croatia 2021–2027 Programme. With a total budget of EUR 2.75 million, the project contributes to the development of the Adriatic - Ionian cycling corridor and promotes sustainable mobility and cycle tourism across the cross-border area.
The conference opened with welcome remarks by Blaž Pezo, on behalf of the Dubrovnik - Neretva Region, and CYROS Project Manager Ivo Klaić. Hrvoje Grancarić, Project Manager at the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg Italy - Croatia Programme, highlighted the strategic importance of CYROS for the entire cooperation area.
Cristina Amirante, Regional Councillor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, presented the project’s key objectives and the progress achieved in developing sustainable and multimodal mobility solutions.
The conference provided an overview of the main results, tools and strategic documents developed during project implementation, one of which is WebGIS map presented by Denis Grasso from ITL.
Federica Ferrauto from the Abruzzo Region presented solutions for connecting coastal and inland areas through intermodal transport services, including Bike&Bus and Bike&Boat options.
Pilot activities implemented along the Adriatic - Ionian route were also showcased, including bicycle counting systems and smart cycling equipment. These activities demonstrated how technology, data and improved transport connections can support safer and more accessible cycling experiences.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion on the long-term use of the project results and further development of cycling infrastructure and its impact on sustainable mobility and tourism.
Participants discussed cycling safety and signage, differences between individual cycling routes and the challenges of connecting coastal areas, the hinterland and islands through multimodal transport. Particular attention was given to cross-border connections between Croatia and Italy.
The panel highlighted the importance of continued investment in cycling infrastructure, itinerary development, education, digital tools and multimodal services. Participants also emphasised the value of cross-border cooperation and synergies with related initiatives, including EuroVelo 8 and the MIMOSA project.
Following the Final Conference, the CYROS project is entering its concluding administrative and reporting phase. During the upcoming period, project partners will focus on completing the remaining activities and preparing the final reports. The conference marked an important project milestone and provided a strong foundation for the continued development of sustainable mobility, cycle tourism and cross-border cooperation across the Adriatic - Ionian region.
