Custom Detail
On 5 November, the project will bring together the scientific community, public institutions and fisheries stakeholders at Ecomondo to discuss challenges and solutions for the sustainable management of marine litter in Adriatic fishing ports.
For the third consecutive year, the event will provide a platform for exchanging knowledge, sharing best practices and exploring practical solutions to reduce and manage waste caught at sea or generated by fishing activities in port areas. Discussions will focus on successful practices developed in fishing ports, pilot experiences that can be transferred to other port contexts, and environmental peer-education models that encourage more sustainable practices within the fisheries sector.
Marine litter remains a growing threat to the Adriatic Sea's marine ecosystems and to key economic sectors such as fisheries and tourism. Tackling this challenge requires coordinated action and cross-border cooperation between the countries sharing the Adriatic basin, particularly Italy and Croatia.
By bringing together municipalities, fishing cooperatives, research institutions and companies responsible for waste collection and disposal, the project aims to strengthen cooperation and promote more effective and sustainable waste management in Adriatic fishing ports.
The event is organised by Ecomondo STC and the University of Padua, in collaboration with the Lavoratori del Mare Cooperative and M.A.R.E. Soc. Coop.
