On 26 September 2026, the Archaeological Park of Sepino will present the immersive experience developed within the ARCHAEODIGIT project, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2026.

How can digital technologies help us experience archaeological heritage from a new perspective?

At the Archaeological Park of Sepino, the answer will be explored through a dedicated event presenting the results of the ARCHAEODIGIT pilot action. The initiative combines archaeological research, cultural interpretation and digital innovation to offer visitors a new way of discovering the ancient Roman city of Saepinum.

From archaeological research to an immersive experience

The pilot action focuses on three monuments of the ancient Roman city, presenting their historical and cultural significance through new digital tools.

The experience combines a thematic guided visit with a 360° immersive experience and virtual reality (VR), allowing participants to explore the archaeological heritage from different perspectives.By integrating digital technologies into the interpretation of the site, the initiative aims to make archaeological heritage more engaging, accessible and inclusive, while supporting new approaches to sustainable cultural tourism.

Experience Saepinum through VR

The event will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at the ARCHAEODIGIT VR Station in the Archaeological Park of Sepino.

Participants will be able to join one of two sessions:
5:30–6:30 p.m.
6:30–7:30 p.m.

Participation is free of charge, but booking is required via Eventbrite. Each session is limited to a maximum of 30 participants.

The event offers visitors the opportunity to discover Saepinum as they have never seen it before, experiencing how digital technologies can complement traditional archaeological interpretation and create new forms of interaction with cultural heritage.

The initiative is part of the ARCHAEODIGIT – Digital transformation of archaeological heritage for sustainable tourism project, which explores how digital solutions can contribute to the preservation, interpretation and sustainable valorisation of archaeological heritage.

Through its pilot actions, the project is testing innovative approaches that connect archaeology, digital technologies and tourism, with particular attention to accessibility, inclusion and the creation of more engaging experiences for visitors and local communities.

The Sepino pilot represents a concrete example of this approach, bringing together scientific knowledge and immersive technologies to create a new dialogue between people and archaeological heritage.
