Info Day in Kaštela: A Journey Through Archaeology, Innovation and Community

On 17 July 2026, the Museum of the City of Kaštela – Vitturi Castle will host the ARCHAEODIGIT Info Day, a full-day event dedicated to bringing archaeology closer to the local community through interactive educational activities, digital innovation and the presentation of the project's achievements.

Organised within the framework of the ARCHAEODIGIT – ARCHAEOlogical DIGITal paths for an inclusive and sustainable tourism project, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, the event will welcome both children and adults to discover how archaeological heritage can be experienced in new, engaging and accessible ways.

Little Archaeologists on a Great Adventure!

How did prehistoric people live? What did Roman ships carry in their large amphorae? Which direction are the sunken ships facing, and who will be the first to crack the secret archaeological code?

These are just some of the mysteries awaiting young participants during the morning workshop "Little Archaeologists on a Great Adventure", facilitated by Nikolina Skoko.

Starting at 10:00 a.m., children will embark on a fascinating journey through Kaštela's past by solving riddles and rebuses, searching for hidden words, following archaeological maps and exploring the museum collections. Along the way, they will uncover the stories of prehistoric communities, Roman trade, ancient shipwrecks and the iconic castles that have shaped the history of Kaštela.

Designed to combine learning with fun, the workshop encourages curiosity, teamwork and creative thinking while introducing participants to the area's rich cultural and archaeological heritage. At the end of the activities, all young explorers will receive special gifts to inspire their creativity, imagination and artistic expression.

Discover the ARCHAEODIGIT Project

The programme continues in the evening with a public session dedicated to presenting the ARCHAEODIGIT project and its achievements.

Beginning at 7:00 p.m., visitors will learn about the project's objectives, the activities implemented across the Italy–Croatia Programme area and the main results achieved throughout the project. The presentation will showcase the innovative digital and educational tools developed to enhance the interpretation of archaeological sites, demonstrating how technology can support more inclusive, accessible and sustainable cultural tourism.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in discussion and discover how archaeology, cultural heritage and digital innovation have been successfully combined to create new experiences for visitors, students and local communities.

Celebrating Heritage Through Innovation

The Info Day will conclude with the opening of the exhibition "AD MENSAM! DE RE COQUINARIA IN NARONA / Come to the Table! The Art of Cooking in Narona", dedicated to Roman gastronomy and intangible cultural heritage, offering visitors an additional opportunity to explore the traditions and daily life of the ancient world.

By combining education, community engagement and digital innovation, the Kaštela Info Day perfectly reflects the mission of ARCHAEODIGIT: enhancing archaeological heritage through innovative tools while promoting more inclusive and sustainable cultural tourism across the Adriatic region.

Whether you are a young explorer eager to solve archaeological mysteries or an adult interested in discovering how technology is transforming the way we experience cultural heritage, the ARCHAEODIGIT Info Day promises an inspiring journey into the past with a vision for the future.
