IN4BLUE ARTICLE: Building Skills for the Future of the Blue Economy
05/03/2026
This article was produced within the IN4BLUE project, the partner Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, contributed to the communication campaign “Insights from Standard Projects”. The campaign aims to showcase experiences, perspectives, and lessons learned from projects supported under the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, highlighting how they contribute to innovation, sustainability, and regional cooperation.
The article focuses on the role of the IN4BLUE project in addressing emerging skills needs within the blue economy. As ocean-based sectors evolve rapidly due to technological change, sustainability requirements, and new economic opportunities, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), professionals, and young talents must develop new competencies to remain competitive. IN4BLUE responds to this challenge by promoting collaboration between the cultural and creative industries, technology experts, and business actors to support innovation and sustainable growth in sectors such as coastal tourism and maritime transport.
Through initiatives such as Social Impact Business Incubators (SBIs), training programmes, and cross-border exchanges, the project fosters the development of new skills and entrepreneurial capacities. These initiatives help bridge the gap between education and industry needs, encouraging co-creation, experimentation, and the development of innovative business models that integrate environmental sustainability and digital transformation.
By strengthening connections between knowledge providers, creative professionals, and SMEs, IN4BLUE contributes to building a more resilient and sustainable blue economy ecosystem. The article reflects on the importance of preparing a new generation of professionals capable of driving innovation while protecting marine and coastal environments, reinforcing the broader goals of sustainable economic development and environmental stewardship.
