On January 21, 2026, a hybrid conference held in Trilj, Croatia, within the framework of the GECO 2.2 project brought together national and local institutions, farmers, SMEs, and environmental organizations to discuss the future of carbon credits and certification in Croatia. The event highlighted the evolving EU framework for carbon credit certification and stressed the need for a structured national roadmap as a prerequisite for developing a credible Voluntary Carbon Market. Through expert discussions and the presentation of GECO 2.2 tools, the conference underscored a shared commitment to transparency, institutional coordination, and the transformation of sustainable agricultural practices into concrete environmental and economic opportunities.

The meeting, organized by CIHEAM Bari, a partner of GECO 2.2, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Puglia Region, an associate partner of GECO 2.2, and under the patronage of ODAF Bari, was a moment of dialogue rich in insights on the key aspects of the voluntary carbon‑credit market in agriculture.

The Confidicoop Marche headquarters hosted the international meeting 'Carbon Farming and Carbon‑Credit Markets: the contribution of the GECO 2.2 project to the sustainable transition', promoted by Legacoop Marche within the European GECO 2.2 – Interreg Italy–Croatia project. The meeting represented an important opportunity to discuss the strategic role of agriculture in combating climate change, through the promotion of sustainable practices and the adoption of innovative tools such as carbon credits.
