New Opportunities from Voluntary Carbon Credit Markets: Strong Participation at the 20 November Event Held at CIHEAM Bari

24/11/2025

The initiative, dedicated to exploring the opportunities offered by the new European legislation on voluntary carbon credit markets in agriculture and to presenting the contribution of the Interreg Italy–Croatia GECO 2.2 project, attracted significant interest from institutions, businesses, and sector professionals.

The meeting was opened by the Director of CIHEAM Bari and the President of ODAF Bari. During the presentations, speakers highlighted the complexity of the current phase of interpretation of EU Regulation 3012, marked by the absence of specific guidelines and a consolidated reference framework. They also outlined the next steps for the transposition of the regulation and the development of future implementing measures, fostering a constructive exchange among the participants.

Particularly relevant was the analysis of the main global carbon credit markets, which shed light on both opportunities and challenges for the agricultural sector.

The event – organised by CIHEAM Bari, partner of GECO 2.2, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Puglia Region, associate partner of GECO 2.2, and with the patronage of ODAF Bari – provided a valuable platform for discussion on key aspects of voluntary carbon credit markets in agriculture.
