Molise at the heart of the debate on the voluntary carbon credit market

A stakeholder information meeting was held in Campobasso, at the University of Molise, as part of the GECO 2.2 project, entitled “The Voluntary Carbon Credit Market: Opportunities and Perspectives”.

The event brought together representatives from regional institutions, academia, and professional organisations. Institutional greetings were delivered by the President and Regional Director of Coldiretti MoliseClaudio Papa and Aniello Ascolese; the Regional Minister for Agriculture, Salvatore Micone; the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences at the University of Molise, Antonio De Cristofaro; the President of the Molise Chamber of CommercePaolo Spina; and the President of the Agronomists’ Association of Campobasso and Isernia, Giuseppe Palumbo.

During the opening remarks, the strategic value of the GECO 2.2 project for the entire regional community—particularly for the agricultural sector—was highlighted. Speakers underlined the project's ability to address the needs of various sectors—political, industrial, associative, technical, and academic—by offering integrated and targeted solutions.

Technical contributions by Antonio Cinti (Legacoop Romagna), Erika Di Iorio (UNIMOL), and Vincenzo Verrastro(CIHEAM Bari) explored agriculture’s role in mitigating climate change, with a focus on the importance of sustainable practices and innovative tools for valuing agricultural carbon.

The final roundtable brought together institutional representatives, regional stakeholders, and local organisations in a constructive dialogue on the prospects of carbon farming, in support of a more sustainable, traceable, and climate-resilient agriculture.
