Creating a new eco-tourism offer in Montefeltro

27/10/2024

In an article in il Resto del Carlino, Mountain Union Montefeltro invited participants to a workshop in Macerata Feltria, at Sala Montefeltro. This was the second workshop within the ETHNIC project which moved from theory to practice in creating eco-cultural tourism products.

“Today's travelers increasingly seek authentic experiences that combine tourism, culture, and sustainability, so Montefeltro is ready to respond to this need. By involving local tourism and culture operators, ETHNIC aims to promote community development in eco-cultural tourism by enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of our regions,” said Andrea Spagna, President of Mountain Union Montefeltro, to the local newspaper Il Resto del Carlino.

Conceptualisation and brainstorming

“In this second workshop, we will present some data, international trends, and characteristics of potential tourist products to be developed. We will then proceed to the conceptualisation, design, and ideation phases, using brainstorming activities, mind maps, and other tools,” concluded Spagna, inviting all local stakeholders in tourism to join and participate in the second ETHNIC workshop in Montefeltro.

Focus on land hopping and active holidays

During this workshop the attendees, consisting of tourism and culture operators, were divided into two groups to collaborate on identifying tourist routes and itineraries. Guided by Maria Celeste Clarembaux and Gianluca Sarti, they reflected on the area's tourism offerings and approaches.

Finally, the third workshop in Montefeltro area gathered culture and tourism leaders, who crafted two unique travel itineraries covering the region, inspired by two major travel trends: land hopping and active holidays.

The conclusion of all workshops is that Montefeltro, with its parks, lakes, and castles, is the perfect destination for eco-cultural tourism - it just needs a small spark to truly take off. This should happen following the final activities of the ETHNIC project, mainly thanks to the cross-border cooperation, new tourism products, and the digital marketing strategy.
