WORKSHOP ON WRECKS AND THEIR CONTEXT: TOURISM AND SUSTAINABLE DIVING

Hybrid event: Fermo (Fermo Forum, Via Giovanni Agnelli, 63900 Fermo FM)
& Bologna (Fiere, Est Michelino entrance – EUDI ShowStand Federation
ITA F07 CMAS Diving Center Italia Pad 30, B13, B9, A10 + Zoom
platform)
The workshop organized by ECOMAP and the Federation ITA F07 CMAS Diving Center Italia addresses the topics related to the conservation of the submerged historical and archaeological heritage, with particular attention to the metal wrecks belonging to the Second World War, intended not only as common heritage, but also as host sites for biodiversity. Interreg Italy-Croatia project ECOMAP addresses the issues relating to underwater tourism; our most recent studies concern iron wrecks in the Upper Adriatic. The workshop proposed a scientific comparison on the aspects of the documentation of sampling, studying, classification, cataloging, biotic and abiotic elements, and analysis of the geological context. The workshop organized within Tipicità and the international diving exhibition EUDI in Bologna have offered the opportunity to invite and host many guests and share opinions directly, an exchange of expertise with institutional officials, academics and non-academic divers, creating new partnerships and cooperation. Aspects relating to current diving legislation have also been the subject of discussion in the ambit of dive leader knowledge and standards. As a function of sustainable tourism with the utmost respect for the environment and submerged heritage, these topics were discussed with the stakeholders and participants of the ECOMAP Project with the LAS Laboratorio di Archeologia Subacquea, Cultural Heritage Dept. of the University of Padova, Soprintendenza Nazionale per il patrimonio culturale sommerso (Taranto, Italy), and Soprintendenza del Mare – Regione Siciliana (Palermo, Italy).
