ECOFOODCYCLE Hackathon: Innovative Ideas to Reduce Food Waste
09/06/2026
On 26–27 May 2026, the ECOFOODCYCLE Hackathon took place at Corte Benedettina in Legnaro (Padua, Italy), bringing together students and young participants in an intensive collaborative event focused on developing innovative solutions to reduce food waste.
The initiative began with an introduction to the issue of food waste, its environmental and social impacts, and the problem-solving methodologies that guided participants throughout the event. The project challenges were then presented, and the working teams were formed.
Over the two days, the teams developed concrete proposals with the support of mentoring sessions, including one led by Andrea Camporese, CEO of EcamRicert, an ECOFOODCYCLE project partner. At the end of the Hackathon, the solutions were presented to a jury for evaluation.
🏆 The winning team, AgriIntelligence, was awarded first place for its project “The Inefficiencies in the Primary Production Generate Structural Losses”, which focused on addressing inefficiencies that lead to food losses in primary production.
The following projects were also presented:
- “Challenge Number 2: Food Service” by Group 2, focusing on food waste reduction opportunities in the food service and catering sector;
- “ECO-Mensa: From Kitchen to Students” by Group 3, proposing solutions for more sustainable school canteen management and greater awareness among students.
The ECOFOODCYCLE Hackathon provided an important opportunity for learning, collaboration and exchange of ideas, highlighting the valuable contribution that young people can make in developing innovative solutions for more sustainable food systems.
