About section

About

The ECOFOODCYCLE project focuses on tackling food waste as a significant contributor to environmental pollution and climate change. It emphasises the systemic need for cross-border cooperation to implement effective prevention and reduction strategies. Food waste not only depletes natural resources but also generates methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas.

Common challenges include the lack of coordinated political strategies, educational programs, and behavioral change towards reducing food waste. ECOFOODCYCLE aims to promote sustainable practices across the Adriatic basin through pilot actions, awareness campaigns, and a stakeholder network. Its innovative approach integrates prevention and management, following the waste hierarchy outlined in EU directives. Cross-border collaboration is essential to enhance knowledge, share best practices, and achieve lasting environmental and economic benefits in the Programme area.
