Results: the DEMY-Coop event at the EUSAIR Forum 2024 was all about EU opportunities for youth

On 15 May 2024, Šibenik (Croatia), Eurelations EEIG, DEMY-Coop Lead Partner, organised a youth event in cooperation with the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion (AIE), the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Adriatic Ionian Initiative. The youth event took place in the framework of the EUSAIR Annual Fourm of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR), and saw the special contribution of the Adriatic Ionian Youth Network (AIYN) and many local youth and youth organisations. More than 60 people participated.

The event focused on "EU opportunities for creating an ecosystem of informed young stakeholders to shape the future of the Adriatic Ionain Region" and was intended to provide information about EU opportunities for young people in the framework of the European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) programmes and the EUSAIR, including the establishment of a EUSAIR Youth Council. The idea was to create a connection among the several ETC and EUSAIR stakehodelders at all levels of governance such as DG REGIO of the European Commission, the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and EU Affairs managing the AII/EUSAIR Croatian Presidency, the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Cohesion Policy Department; Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion (AIE); the Marche Region and the Town of Sibenik.

Invited to actively participate in the event, many young people from all EUSAIR countries gathered got the chance of networking with their peers and the stakeholders participating in the event. Three local youth organisations, Udruga Mladi u EUUdruga Argonauta and Udruga Aurora Sibenik, and an Italian youth organisation very active in transantional cooperation, Giovanichiemere, and three IVY volunteeers participated.

The information to which they were exposed to included:

  • the EU opportunities for youth participation foreseen among the EU priorities for the current and next programming cycle;
  • updates about the processes of youth engagement at EUSAIR level and the related Call for applications to the EUSAIR Youth Council (EYC);
  • the opportunities for youth organisations in Italy and Croatia to be part of the DEMY-Coop project and the events foreseen in Summer (lcoal events) and in Autumn 2024 (two transnational youth fora in Venice and Sibenik);
  • the opportunities for youth organisaitons in Italy and Croatia to receive funds by the Gear Up project and work on global citizenship and sustainable development goals as applied to the EUSAIR.
