This paper aims to present an in-depth analysis of business processes in the railway nodes identified within the CROSSFREIGHT project, with the objective of recognising the AS IS scenario and operational processes. The focus is on operational efficiency, bottleneck analysis and the integration of digital solutions to improve the management of freight flows and shunting operations. This AS IS analysis, proposes to highlight possible bottlenecks in the management of railway operations and infrastructure utilisation. Therefore, this document is intended to represent the starting step on which to elaborate the pilots to be realised within the project, contributing to present an integrated analysis of the railway operations of the partners.

This report provides a comprehensive assessment of the impacts generated through the Field Operational Tests (FOTs) conducted in Work Package 2 of the CROSSFREIGHT project. While Deliverable D.2.2.1 documented what was executed during each pilot, the present Deliverable D.2.3.1 evaluates how these tests performed and what impacts they generated across multiple dimensions.

The WP3 Transferability Analysis assessed the potential to replicate solutions in at least five additional intermodal nodes. Transferability potential was rated medium to high across all pilots, though conditional upon factors such as digital infrastructure readiness, governance structures, data availability, and stakeholder willingness to adopt new procedures. Importantly, each partner expressed readiness to support further uptake of their solution through knowledge sharing, peer-to-peer sessions, site visits, and provision of training materials—strengthening the project’s cross-border value.

This document provides a structured roadmap for exploiting and transferring the digital innovation outcomes of the CROSSFREIGHT project (Interreg VI-A Italy-Croatia, ITHR0200487) to additional intermodal nodes across the Adriatic-Ionian region and beyond. This deliverable is produced under Work Package 3, Activity 3.3, and is led by the Port of Šibenik Authority (PP7) in close collaboration with all eight project partners.
