Project specific objectives

CROSSFREIGHT aims at testing and exploit digital ICT tools in a new, comprehensive project that will create common strategies to widen the field of intervention on intermodality in both countries.

CROSSFREIGHT will tackle the identified Programme's common challenges with the strategic objective to improve the intermodal connection between logistic nodes in the regional hinterland and their reference ports located along the TEN-T networks.

Project main outputs

Project main outputs

The main output will be at least 7 modernized intermodal connections (RCO54), 7 pilot actions developed jointly and implemented in projects (RCO84), and 1 strategic action plan jointly developed (RCO 83).

About section

About

The Italian and Croatian ports of the Adriatic have experienced significant growth in intermodal traffic, linking ports to their hinterlands via rail. However, inefficiencies have emerged due to the complex network of stakeholders, complicating the integration of port operations and last-mile processes, which are vital for rail service competitiveness.

CROSSFREIGHT aims to address these challenges by testing and implementing digital ICT tools to improve intermodal connections between logistic nodes and ports along the TEN-T networks. The project focuses on optimising rail links, enhancing last-mile operations, and fostering cross-border strategies for rail freight transport.

Key outputs will include modernising at least seven intermodal connections, developing pilot actions, and creating a strategic action plan. The project will engage a wide range of stakeholders and is set to run for 24 months with eight key partners from Italy and Croatia, ensuring comprehensive expertise to achieve its objectives.
