Second Civil Protection Joint Exercise - Italy

During the weekend of October 19 and 20, the second joint exercise was held between the Civil Protection volunteers of the Pratiarcati Union and the professional and volunteer rescuers of the city of Labin.
During the two-day exercise, the skills acquired with the training courses on rope and height work, and on the use of drones were tested. The practices of extinguishing forest fires within the Euganean Hills regional park were put into practice, under the supervision of the Head of Fire Extinguishing Operations of the Veneto Region.
There was an opportunity to verify and compare the different intervention protocols and the different equipment, both Italian and Croatian, comparing their strengths and weaknesses in the various usage scenarios.
During the two-day exercise, a base camp open to the public was set up in Albignasego, where citizens were able to meet the volunteers and professional rescuers, practice prevention of hydrogeological risks, see the dog team in action and learn more about rope work techniques with the presence of a 10-meter-high maneuver tower.
In the territory of Maserà di Padova, a missing person search exercise was carried out, refining the search with personnel trained in the use of drones in flight.
The children of the first and second level primary schools spent Saturday morning in the company of Civil Protection volunteers from the Pratiarcati union, learning more about Personal Protection Devices, first aid techniques with the Croce Verde and Croce Rossa, knowledge of the Civil Protection system and how tornadoes are formed that cause so much damage also in Veneto.
At the base camp, a session of the national campaign IONONRISCHIO was also set up on the dissemination of good civil protection practices of the National Civil Protection Department, which met the population by telling the events of the past, how they can reoccur and what actions can be implemented immediately to prevent flood damage.
All the operational structures of the Civil Protection system that are present in the municipalities of Albignasego, Casalserugo and Maserà di Padova participated in the exercise, demonstrating how important collaboration and mutual understanding are.
Thanks to the previous exercise that took place in Labin on 15 and 16 June, it was possible to work even more in synergy and with awareness of each other's capabilities.
An excellent example of collaboration between people that goes beyond state borders and administrative and practical difficulties.
These were moments of great work and concentration, which will bear fruit also in the years of future collaboration.
