BIOBASED celebrates the Final Conference at AquaBioTech 2026
05/08/2026
The Final Conference of BIOBASED is coming up soon and will provide an opportunity to showcase the results of a cross-border initiative aimed at bolstering the blue bioeconomy in the Adriatic. Through research, pilot actions and joint testing, the project has explored the potential of sustainable macroalgae production within Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems and the valorisation of marine biomass and aquaculture by products through a blue biorefinery approach.
The event will take place on 11 September 2026 in Naples, within the framework of the 4th International Aquatic Biotechnology Symposium (AquaBioTech 2026), hosted at the Federico II Conference Centre. The conference represents a major international scientific forum devoted to the latest advances in aquatic biotechnology, gathering leading scientists, young researchers and industry experts from various disciplines including marine biology, chemistry, molecular biology, environmental sciences and biotechnology.
During the symposium, different session will explore the role of aquatic biotechnology and its potential applications in several fieds, including the development of bio-based materials and functional bioproducts suitable for cosmetics within the industrial perspective, microbial and enzymatic solutions for pollution mitigation, the optimization of the natural efficiency in the food system and the production of biofuels and renewable energy in the energy sector.
Alongside scientific presentations and keynote speeches, AquaBioTech 2026 provides a valuable floor for interdisciplinary exchange, encouraging dialogue among stakeholders and fostering channels for networking, knowledge sharing and new collaborations. Its international dimension also offers an important setting to discuss how scientific advances can be translated into innovative solutions for aquatic resources.
Hosting the BIOBASED Final Conference within AquaBioTech 2026 places the project in a wider international scientific context and creates a direct link with many of the themes explored during its implementation. It gives the partnership the opportunity to share its experience with a broader community interested in sustainable aquaculture, marine resources and blue biotechnology.
By bringing its Final Conference to AquaBiotech 2026, BIOBASED comes to an end in a global scientific environment that perfectly reflects its goal to bridge research, innovation and sustainable blue growth, while fostering collaboration long after the project ends.
