BIOBASED is entering one of the final and most important stages of the project: the preparation of a shared Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In a nutshell, the MoU is a shared document in which the partners agree on the goals they want to pursue together and on the actions they intend to continue after the project ends. It will help turn the experience gained through BIOBASED into a lasting commitment to sustainable aquaculture and the blue bioeconomy in the Adriatic area.

To prepare this document, all BIOBASED partners have started their own consultation processes. These meetings are helping the partnership collect ideas, suggestions and practical feedback from relevant regional actors, including SMEs, stakeholders and decision makers.

The consultations are closely linked to the work already carried out by the project. Throughout the BIOBASED project, the partners have explored how seaweeds and by-products from fisheries and aquaculture can be transformed into valuable new products through a biorefinery approach. They have also worked on the production of high-value compounds and functional feeds for aquaculture, as well as on strengthening cross-border cooperation among research organisations, businesses and other actors of the blue economy.

Each of the five project partners has therefore organised at least one dedicated consultation meeting with relevant regional representatives. The feedback collected during these meetings will help shape the final version of the MoU. The document will build on the project’s work on green technologies, market opportunities and the transfer of innovative solutions to SMEs, while also supporting a stronger connection between project results and future regional and European policies.

The final MoU, developed based on the input gathered, will be presented and signed by the partners during the BIOBASED Final Conference in Naples, formalising their shared commitment to sustainable aquaculture and the blue bioeconomy in the Adriatic region.
