BIOBASED Project Presented to the EUNICoast Community

10/06/2026

On 9 June 2026, the University of Dubrovnik, partner of the BIOBASED project, presented the project during the 4th T&R Hubs Webinar Series – “Bridging R&I among Coastal Regions”, organised within the framework of the EUNICoast Alliance.

The webinar brought together representatives of the EUNICoast Alliance, a network of 13 higher education institutions from 11 European countries, connecting universities located in islands, ports and coastal territories. The initiative provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences on research, innovation and regional development in coastal areas.

During the event, the University of Dubrovnik introduced the BIOBASED project, presenting its main objectives, current activities and expected results. Particular attention was devoted to the project’s contribution to the development of sustainable and bio-based solutions for the Adriatic area, including the promotion of Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture systems, the valorisation of marine biomass and aquaculture side-streams, and the strengthening of cooperation between researchers, producers and SMEs.

The presentation also highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation between Italy and Croatia in supporting innovation in the blue bioeconomy and in promoting new opportunities for coastal communities, research institutions and enterprises operating in the aquaculture and marine biotechnology sectors.

The webinar represented an important occasion to raise awareness of BIOBASED among the wider EUNICoast academic community and to share information on the project’s ongoing activities, achievements and potential contribution to sustainable development in coastal regions.

Through its participation in the EUNICoast webinar, the University of Dubrovnik contributed to the dissemination of BIOBASED results and to the promotion of dialogue between universities and stakeholders committed to research and innovation for more sustainable coastal territories.
