BIOBASED concludes its networking cycle at AQUAFARM 2026

23/02/2026

On 19 February 2026, the BIOBASED project successfully held its 3rd and final Networking Event in Pordenone (Italy), within the framework of AQUAFARM, one of Europe’s leading exhibitions dedicated to aquaculture and sustainable food production.

Titled “Market Opportunities and Regulatory Pathways for Blue Bioeconomy Products”, the event marked the final milestone of a three-event networking cycle aimed at strengthening cross-border dialogue and fostering collaboration among key actors of the Adriatic blue bioeconomy.

Building on the outcomes of the previous events in Dubrovnik and Foggia, the Pordenone meeting brought together researchers, SMEs, industry representatives, public authorities, and stakeholders to explore the evolving landscape of blue biotechnologies and their market potential.

Discussions focused on regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, and innovation pathways, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges related to the development of algae-based solutions and aquaculture by-products. Particular attention was given to the barriers affecting the Mediterranean context, as well as to emerging approaches capable of enhancing the value of marine biomass across different sectors.

The event also provided space to reflect on the role of SMEs and applied research in accelerating the transition towards more sustainable and circular models, reinforcing the importance of integrating scientific knowledge, entrepreneurship, and policy support.

As the final event of the networking cycle, the Pordenone meeting consolidated the project’s efforts in promoting knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement, and cross-border cooperation, strengthening connections between research, industry, and institutions.

The strong participation and active discussions confirmed the growing interest in innovative and sustainable solutions for marine resources, underlining the importance of continued collaboration to unlock the full potential of the blue bioeconomy in the Adriatic region.

By closing this cycle of networking events, BIOBASED further reinforces its role as a catalyst for innovation and cooperation, paving the way for future developments in blue biorefinery and sustainable aquaculture.
