Stakeholder Workshop Recap

02/03/2026

On Thursday, February 17, 2026, the second bePrepARed stakeholder workshop was successfully held at Hotel Narenta in Metković, Croatia, bringing together 29 participants from 18 institutions, organizations, and companies.

The workshop focused on exchanging knowledge and practices in landscape governance, while presenting the latest results of the bePrepARed project, aimed at strengthening climate change adaptation and disaster resilience in sensitive ecosystems across Italy and Croatia.

Key highlights included:
🔹 Presentation of biodiversity research in the Neretva River Valley, confirming high species richness but also identifying increasing pressures such as climate change, habitat degradation, and invasive species
🔹 Insights into the spread and management of the invasive zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha), emphasizing the importance of monitoring, cross-border cooperation, and non-chemical control measures
🔹 Successful implementation of waste removal activities from speleological sites in the Neretva Delta, contributing to the protection of valuable underground ecosystems

The workshop concluded with important recommendations, including the need for:
✔️ Stronger collaboration across borders, especially with Bosnia and Herzegovina
✔️ Continuous monitoring and data sharing on invasive species
✔️ Increased public awareness and education on environmental protection
✔️ Sustainable and safe waste management practices

Through joint efforts and knowledge exchange, bePrepARed continues to support more resilient ecosystems and sustainable landscape management in the programme area. 🌍
