A PAGURO WRECK 3D MAPPING TO DISCOVER THE WONDER OF THE UNDERWATER WORLD WITH VIRTUAL REALITY

Published on 11/12/2019 (last modified 21/09/2020)

Subscriptions for the photo mapping are now open!

In the WP4 activities of the Adrireef project, the Municipality of Ravenna, in collaboration with Arpae Emilia-Romagna and Associazione Paguro, is developing a new project for the touristic and environmental promotion of the Paguro wreck lying underwater at 11 sea miles from the Ravenna coastline.

Thanks to the involvement of Ubica srl, the activity will produce an interactive virtual reality tool for the divulgation to the wide public of the 3D images and reconstructions of the Paguro wreck. In this way, everyone will have the chance to explore the marvellous underwater fauna and flora universe that has developed through the years in and around the wreck of the platform sunk in 1965 at around 25 metres depth. The whole visit will be packed with additional information.

The Ubica srl professional diver team will realize the wreck mapping with photographic surveys and its 3D virtual transposition. All this will be coupled with a citizen science activity to train and involve non-professional divers keen on underwater photos and videos.

The 1st training webinar was broadcasted online on Thursday 20th August. The 2nd will be broadcasted on Tuesday 29th September at 6.30 p.m. Europe/Italy time zoneSubscription is compulsory with the participation form that can be found
here or on the Adrireef Facebook profile (www.facebook.com/adrireef). During the webinars, participants will receive information on the Adrireef project, the Paguro wreck, the type of photos and videos that are necessary for the mapping activity, and instructions on how to use their own equipment at its best. A part of the sessions will be dedicated to a Q&A session where participants will receive replies and advice.

After the webinar, the trained participants will have the chance to participate in a series of diving days together with the professional team that will collect the photo and video materials (equipment and boat costs at the expense of the participants). These sessions are planned for the 9th and 10th October.

In the end, the virtual tour to the Paguro wreck will be accessible online and a dedicated post will be made available with virtual reality 3D visors too. All details will be revealed on the Adrireef web and social channels soon. Stay tuned!
