Travel Without Barriers: A New Vision of Inclusive Tourism
For people living with Dementia and Alzheimer's disease, travelling can become increasingly difficult due to a lack of adapted services and understanding within tourism environments. Yet travel experiences can have a powerful positive impact on wellbeing.
Inclusive tourism allows people with cognitive decline to continue exploring, socialising, and enjoying meaningful moments, while also supporting their mental and emotional wellbeing. Simple activities such as walking through a destination, participating in cultural experiences, or spending time in nature can stimulate memory, reduce stress, and strengthen social connections.
For families and caregivers, these experiences are equally important. Travelling in a supportive and inclusive environment provides moments of rest and shared enjoyment, helping to reduce the emotional and physical burden of caregiving.
The ADRINCLUSIVE project is working to transform tourism into a truly accessible resource for everyone, promoting inclusive destinations, raising awareness among tourism professionals, and creating opportunities for people with cognitive decline to travel safely and comfortably.
