Showcased during the Interreg Italy–Croatia Monitoring Committee study visit in Ancona
09/06/2026
On 27 May 2026, the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Programme gathered in Ancona for a study visit hosted by the Central Adriatic Ports Authority. The visit offered Programme representatives and institutional stakeholders the opportunity to explore ongoing projects and witness firsthand how European cooperation is generating tangible benefits across the Adriatic area.
Among the projects featured during the visit, ADRIJOROUTES was presented alongside MILEPORT and CRESPORT, highlighting the contribution of Adriatic ports to sustainable development, digital innovation and territorial cooperation.
A key moment of the visit took place at the Arch of Trajan, one of the most iconic landmarks of the Port of Ancona and a symbol of the city's maritime heritage. Here, participants were introduced to the ADRIJOROUTES digital platform through a live demonstration organised with the support of the Department of Civil and Building Engineering and Architecture of Marche Polytechnic University (DISTORI Heritage Lab).
The experience allowed Monitoring Committee members to explore the project’s virtual museums dedicated to the ports of Ancona, Venice, Trieste, Ravenna, Rijeka, Zadar, Dubrovnik and Split, as well as the seven cross-border cultural routes developed within the project. Through immersive and interactive digital content, participants discovered how ADRIJOROUTES is transforming ports into cultural gateways, connecting maritime heritage, local communities and sustainable tourism experiences across the Adriatic.
The demonstration showcased one of the project’s core ambitions: enhancing the visibility and accessibility of port cultural assets through digital technologies while strengthening a shared Adriatic identity. By bringing together stories, heritage, traditions and innovative tools, ADRIJOROUTES contributes to redefining the role of ports, not only as transport hubs but also as places of culture, knowledge and social inclusion.
The positive feedback received during the visit confirmed the relevance of the project’s approach and its contribution to the objectives of the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme. Committee members expressed their appreciation for the results achieved so far and reiterated the importance of continuing cooperation between Italian and Croatian ports to further promote sustainable tourism, cultural valorisation and innovation across the Adriatic region.
The study visit represented an important opportunity to showcase how ADRIJOROUTES is building a shared cultural ecosystem that connects ports, cities and territories, fostering new ways to experience the Adriatic through cooperation, digitalisation and heritage-led development.
