ADRIJOROUTES Showcased at an Event in Ravenna, focused on Sustainable Port Development

06/05/2025

On April 17, 2025, the ADRIJOROUTES project was presented during a high-level public event held in Ravenna, Italy. Organized by Port of Ravenna Authority (Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico centro settentrionale) in collaboration with the International Propeller Club – Port of Ravenna, the event focused on the sustainable development of the Port of Ravenna, highlighting the important role of EU-funded projects such as ADRIJOROUTES and ADRIREC.

Held at the Grand Hotel Mattei, the event brought together institutional and local stakeholders, industry professionals, and sustainability advocates. The evening provided a platform to discuss how European projects are shaping the green transformation of port infrastructure and marine conservation efforts.

One of the central themes of the event was the collaboration between the Port Authority and the CESTHA research center, located in the historic ex-Stabulario building in Marina di Ravenna. Thanks to funding from the Interreg programme, these initiatives are transforming the ex-Stabulario into a pilot site for innovative, environmentally focused activities.

Mario Petrosino, Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the importance of European projects as a strategic tool for financing some of the development initiatives undertaken by the Port Authority.

Francesco Magagnoli, Head of EU Promotion and Project Development at the Port Authority, introduced the ADRIJOROUTES project and its objectives, emphasizing the project's alignment with broader port strategies aimed at sustainability, eco-tourism, and cross-border cooperation along the Adriatic and Ionian regions.

The presentation highlighted how ADRIJOROUTES supports:

  • The enhancement of historical maritime routes,
  • The promotion of sustainable tourism linked to coastal heritage,
  • And the active reuse of underutilized port and coastal infrastructure with environmental value.

The evening also featured interventions from Simone D’Acunto, Director of CESTHA, and Stefano Terribile, Head of Intermodality and Logistics at the Port Authority, who spoke about the ADRIREC project and its synergy with ADRIJOROUTES.

The event concluded with a lively debate, reinforcing the idea that port development and environmental stewardship can and must go hand in hand. Following the formal session, members of the Propeller Club and their guests joined for a social dinner, continuing the evening’s discussions in a convivial setting.

The presentation of ADRIJOROUTES in Ravenna marks an important step in raising awareness of how transnational cooperation and EU funding can empower local actions and inspire sustainable development across the Adriatic-Ionian region.
