Organisation expertise

The Municipality of Ortona is located in the central part of the Adriatic coast, in the Abruzzo region. It has two protected coastal/marine areas to the north and south of the port, where there is significant natural and cultural heritage that the municipality is conserving and enhancing through various projects. In fact, there are coastal dune and reef environments, including underwater ones, with protected marine environments and species. Furthermore, there is an intangible cultural heritage of maritime and port sites and traditions that we intend to enhance through open-air tourist routes. The two reserves are connected by the "Via Verde," a cycle and pedestrian path that runs along the entire Adriatic coast. (https://viaverdedeitrabocchi.info/). The Trabocchi Coast takes its name from the unique fishing machine typical of the southern Abruzzo region and has been highly valued for slow tourism, even within various protected areas. In addition to the natural and cultural heritage, there are also archaeological sites (ancient ports and an ancient fishing village with an early Christian church) with areas where paleontological remains have also been discovered. In fact, the municipality of Ortona has participated in the Interreg APPRODI (in the list of projects to be capitalized for the 4th call) and intends to create a connection between all the heritages in a sustainable integrated tourist route, to be extended also to social inclusion with adaptation of information for all types of users.
