WASTEREDUCE Project Info Day and Stakeholder Workshop Held in Pula

26/01/2026

Last Thursday, 22 January 2026, an Info Day of the WASTEREDUCE project was held, alongside with a Stakeholder Workshop organised by our partner, Istrian County. The event took place at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula and was jointly organised by the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism in cooperation with the University.

During the Info Day, several key topics related to marine and coastal pollution were discussed. Participants learned about marine litter monitoring methodologies, with a focus on structured data collection during coastal and underwater clean-up activities. The programme also addressed ghost fishing, where abandoned or lost fishing gear, such as nets and hooks, continues to trap and kill marine life, posing a serious threat to biodiversity. The rest of the programme focused on micro- and nanoplastics, emphasizing their impacts on marine organisms and entire ecosystems.

As part of the Stakeholder Workshop, participants were presented with the Study on the Prevention of Land-Based Waste Entering the Marine Environment and a draft Action Plan for WASTEREDUCE

We would like to thank all participants for attending our Info Day. Waste management is a shared challenge that transcends institutional and national boundaries, and only through cooperation, knowledge exchange, and proven approaches can long-term, sustainable solutions be achieved.
