  • ​​​​​Improve waste management in protected and Natura 2000 areas through monitoring, prevention, and impact mitigation.

  • Enhance waste management policies and practices, raise awareness, and promote behavioral change.

  • Reduce waste management costs while fostering cooperation across public and private sectors at cross-border, national, regional, and local levels.

  • Achieve project goals through a cross-border, transnational, or inter-regional approach.

  • Bring together partners, stakeholders, interest groups, and citizens at all levels to share conclusions and recommendations on waste management.

  • Develop joint reports, policies, and strategies for monitoring, preventing, and reducing waste in protected and Natura 2000 areas.

  • Implement the WASTEREDUCE approach in pilot-protected areas and Natura 2000 sites.

  • Promote participatory waste governance, awareness, and capacity-building activities.

  • Establish a network of protected areas, key stakeholders, and a waste management mechanism to replicate the WASTEREDUCE approach.

About project

Project WASTEREDUCE addresses waste management challenges in protected and Natura 2000 areas in Italy and Croatia. It focuses on waste prevention, impact reduction, and stakeholder cooperation. Through joint actions and awareness campaigns, the project improves waste policies and practices. Key strategies include monitoring, prevention, reduction, and mitigation, particularly in rivers and coastal areas. With a cross-border approach, WASTEREDUCE tackles pollution in both green and blue areas, fostering collaboration for more effective waste management.

    WASTEREDUCE Project Info Day and Stakeholder Workshop Held in Pula

    Last Thursday, 22 January 2026, an Info Day of the WASTEREDUCE project was held, alongside a Stakeholder Workshop organised by our partner, Istrian County. The event took place at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula and was jointly organised by the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism in cooperation with the University.

    Italian workshop in Cittadella (PD)

    On 22 January in Cittadella (Padua), the workshop “From theory to practice: proposed actions to tackle littering along the Brenta River” was held as part of the Interreg Italy–Croatia WASTEREDUCE project, bringing together institutions, local administrations and stakeholders to address waste-related challenges in the Middle Brenta area.
