Project specific objectives

  • The TOFOLA project aims to develop sustainable tourism in the Northern Adriatic by creating itineraries based on the region’s shipbuilding history during the Serenissima Republic of Venice.
  • It seeks to diversify tourist flows, reduce pressure on popular areas, and ensure equal access to cultural heritage for all, including people with disabilities, the elderly, and young people.
  • By promoting under-explored destinations, TOFOLA fosters environmental sustainability and benefits local communities.

  • User-friendly business models for defining tourism products related to the project’s pilot areas.

About section

About TOFOLA

The project aims to launch sustainable tourist products based on the historical shipbuilding heritage of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.

It seeks to diversify tourism in the Northern Adriatic region and promote underexploited destinations. Key challenges addressed include ensuring equal access to cultural heritage for diverse populations and increasing environmental sustainability by redirecting tourist flows.

TOFOLA focuses on leveraging the historical forests of Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Istria to reconstruct traditional boats for tourism purposes.

This initiative aims to achieve:

- The implementation of QR codes for wood traceability in boat reconstruction.
- Development of digital tools to simplify boat construction processes for operators.
- Creation of engineering solutions to enhance boat accessibility for people with disabilities.
- Design of eco-friendly propulsion systems for boats to minimize environmental impact.
- Development of easily scalable business models for tourism products linked to historical routes from forests to coastal destinations.

By blending historical heritage with modern innovation, TOFOLA aims to revitalize cultural assets and promote sustainable tourism across the region.
