Our Final Booklet: a replicable model for sustainable tourism

06/08/2026

As TOFOLA reaches the final stages of its journey, a new deliverable sets the foundations for bringing the tourism products developed throughout the project to a wider audience.

TOFOLA has published its Final Booklet, a comprehensive document outlining the methodology behind the development of its cross-border tourism products.

The Promotion Strategy provides a shared framework to support the visibility, communication and long-term development of the four tourism products created across the project areas. Its aim is to ensure that the experiences developed by TOFOLA can continue to grow beyond the project itself, strengthening their connection with local communities, operators and visitors.

One story, four territories

Although each itinerary reflects the distinctive character of its territory, the strategy brings them together through a common narrative: Forest-to-Sea.

This concept connects forests, rivers, lagoons and coastal landscapes through the historical relationship between timber, water and the maritime heritage of the Adriatic. It provides a shared identity for the tourism offer while leaving space for each destination to tell its own story.

Communicating sustainability through experience

The strategy places sustainability and accessibility at the centre of how these products are presented.

Slow mobility, local communities, cultural heritage and environmental awareness become part of the visitor experience itself, while clear and transparent information helps visitors understand how each itinerary can be experienced. Accessibility is therefore considered not simply as an additional feature, but as an essential part of both the tourism products and their communication.

The promotion strategy also relies on collaboration. Tourism operators, cultural organisations, local businesses, destination management organisations and other stakeholders can act as ambassadors of their territories, helping the TOFOLA experiences reach new audiences while strengthening local networks.

Keeping the routes moving

The strategy represents an important step towards ensuring that the work developed during TOFOLA can continue after the project ends.

By combining a shared identity with place-based stories, coordinated communication and local collaboration, TOFOLA provides the four tourism products with the tools to become visible, recognisable and, above all, ready to welcome visitors looking for a different way to experience the Northern Adriatic.

From the timber routes connecting Carnia to the Marano Lagoon, to the Forest-Wine-Sea experience in Istria, the cycling itinerary between lowland forests and the Caorle Lagoon, and the maritime heritage and green innovation of the Po Delta, each product translates local resources into a different way of experiencing the territory.
