Advancing the understanding of Salinization Processes in the Ferrara plain
12/02/2026
As part of ongoing STRENGTH activities aimed at analysing salinization processes in the Ferrara area, CBPF with the support of CFR – Consorzio Futuro in Ricerca, carried out a dedicated sampling campaign focused on electrical conductivity (EC) measurements on approximately 200 samples.
The EC measurements (μS/cm), integrated with nutrient data, will enhance our understanding of the hydrogeochemical dynamics of the phreatic aquifer.
These datasets represent a key step toward the flow modelling of the Ferrara phreatic aquifer, an essential tool for assessing salinization processes and supporting sustainable groundwater management strategies.
This activity is part of a broader effort to monitor and analyse the phenomena affecting the water systems of the Ferrara plain—an area particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts and saline intrusion.
