A multi-hazard risk framework presented at SAHC 2025
05/11/2025
Prof. Željana Nikolić (University of Split, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture
and Geodesy) presented STRENGTH Project activities at the 14th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Structures (SAHC 2025) held in Lausanne, Switzerland, in September 15-17, 2025.
The SAHC conference is established as the top event that brings together researchers and practitioners working to all fields related with the structural analysis of historical structures.
The scientific paper An Integrated Approach to Seismic and Coastal Flood Risk Assessment for Historical Buildings authored by Željana Nikolić, Toni Kekez and Elena Benvenuti, presented a multi-hazard risk framework for combined assessment of naturally unrelated seismic and flood risks based on the concept of Expected Annual Damage for risk modelling, combining the probability of hazard occurrence and corresponding damage for every risk.
The proposed approach allows the monetary quantification of the combined impact of seismic and flood risks.
The methodology is demonstrated for the case study of Kaštela City in Croatia.
The present methodology represents an important tool for developing adaptation and mitigation strategies of urban areas to climate-change impact as well as life cycle analyses of buildings in line with the principles of the circular economy.
