Beach as a Classroom The RESONANCE Project Brings Coastal Risks Closer to Young People

29/04/2026

On Friday, April 24, 2026, the Saccorgiana Beach turned into a vibrant open-air classroom as part of the RESONANCE Interreg Italy–Croatia project.
Students from local primary and secondary schools joined experts, researchers, and emergency services for a day dedicated to understanding coastal risks in a fun, interactive, and hands-on way.

From creative drawings of landslides to practical experiments, the young participants explored how natural processes shape our coastline. The beach was transformed into multiple “knowledge zones,” where participants rotated through workshops and demonstrations covering:
🌊 coastal dynamics and erosion
🛟 civil protection and emergency response
📱 digital tools and augmented reality in risk management
🌱 invasive species and ecosystem changes
⛰️ search and rescue operations in the field

Experts from civil protection services, mountain rescue teams, and the academic community worked side by side with students, making complex topics accessible and engaging.

Events like this highlight the importance of combining science, education, and real-world experience to raise awareness about coastal risks and strengthen community resilience-starting with the youngest generations.
