BENCHMARKING AND ASSESMENT OF EWS

To assess existing Early Warning Systems (EWS), policies, platforms, governance structures, and climate adaptation approaches in the Italy–Croatia Programme Area identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement and harmonisation, the project developed a Joint Strategy for EWS upgrade and standardisation to support more coordinated, effective, and interoperable EWS across the Adriatic region.

This is the final output achieved:

KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION AND TRANSFER

To explore and extract transferable knowledge from both within and outside the Programme Area to foster innovation and scale up effective climate adaptation and resilience strategies across the Adriatic region. Its main goal is to support project partners and stakeholders - including policy-makers and Associated Partners - in deepening their understanding of existing territorial resilience practices developed in comparable regions.

This is the final output achieved:

1. Adriatic risk & climate resilience forum – Cross-border stakeholder event

Mapping of existing good practices in climate adaptation actions

Providing an overview of existing good practices in climate adaptation actions outside and within the Programme area.

Guidelines for replicability in target areas

Information analysis from the maping activities and creation of Atlas that will provide public authorities with options for implementing climate adaptation actions.

Creation of Guidelines that will provide a clear indication about how to potentially replicate mapped best practices in the project partners territories highlight the foreseen implementation process.

REALIST LOCAL PILOTS

To validate outputs through real-life pilot actions, testing best practices and guidelines across five themes: early warning systems, nature-based solutions, coastal protection, disaster risk management, and innovative financing schemes.

The pilots will demonstrate the applicability of Guidelines, highlight improvement areas and clearly assess the replication potential to a wider area.

Local pilots on Nature Based Solutions

Implementation of nature-based solution pilots in Croatian territory: rain and green gardens, and wider approaches to increased coastal resilience.

Local pilots on Coastal protection

Implementation of five local pilots regarding coastal protection.

Local pilots on risks prevention and management

Implementation of five local initiatives focusing on other risks faced by coastal territories, from fire prevention and management to water management in times of water deficit.  

Local pilot on innovative financing schemes for climate adaptation actions

Identifycation of potential innovative financial schemes in order to support the implementation of most common climate adaptation actions, as identified in the Climate Risk and Adaptation Actions Atlas.

REALIST public events

Organisation of local workshops and info days to raise awareness about climate change risks, prevention measures and climate adaptation actions ongoing in each of the local territories.

GOVERNANCE DESIGN AND LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY OF ACTIONS

To establish a stable framework for cross-Adriatic cooperation through a permanent Observatory, supporting long-term governance, policy, and capacity-building in target areas.

Consolidation of policy recommendations, highlighting possible policy measures and actions.
