The accessible OMNIS project website is live!

09/01/2025

We are excited to announce that the accessible OMNIS project website is now live. The site was designed to be more inclusive and accessible, ensuring that everyone, including blind and visually impaired users, can easily access and interact with the content and features. This commitment aligns with the OMNIS project’s mission to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism, meeting the WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards.

Why an accessible website?

The OMNIS project reaches a wide and diverse audience, including people with different needs. That’s why we developed a website that meets the highest accessibility standards, so everyone can browse, interact, and find information without barriers.

Key features of the website:

  • Semantic HTML structure: The content is organized with appropriate headings (H1, H2, H3) to help screen readers interpret information and allow for easy navigation.
  • Alternative text for images: All images on the website include descriptive alt text (alt=""), making visual elements understandable for users with screen readers.
  • Keyboard navigation: The website can be fully navigated using keyboard commands (Tab key), with the focus indicator always visible for those who do not use a mouse.
  • Color contrast and text size: The website’s text and background colors have the right contrast to ensure readability, and the text size is optimized for comfortable reading.
  • Responsive design: The website elements adjust automatically to fit any screen size. Even with up to 200% zoom, all elements remain visible and accessible, ensuring visually impaired users can easily find the information they need.
  • Skip links: We have implemented skip links, such as "Skip to main content" or "Skip to footer," which are visible when using a keyboard or screen reader. These links allow users to quickly jump to the desired section, improving the user experience.
  • No generic or empty links: All links have clear, descriptive text that explains their destination or function.
  • Clear calls to action: Buttons and links are labeled with text that clearly explains their purpose or destination.

These features reflect our commitment to creating a web experience that is inclusive and accessible for everyone, in line with the values of OMNIS.
