Enhancing Last-Mile Connectivity: Our topic at Croatian Port Days 2026

07/04/2026

From 25 to 28 March 2026, the city of Zara hosted the Croatian Port Days, a key event for the Croatian port system and a valuable platform for exchange with European stakeholders.
As part of the programme, the roundtable “Cooperation Without Borders – European Ports and EU Projects” took place on 26 March, focusing on the role of territorial cooperation and EU-funded initiatives in shaping the future of ports. Alberto Cozzi, representing the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, presented the MILEPORT project, highlighting its contribution to improving last-mile accessibility in Adriatic ports.
The presentation focused on how MILEPORT addresses concrete bottlenecks related to road access to ports, through digital solutions for traffic management, gate optimisation and integration with port community systems. Particular emphasis was placed on the value of cross-border cooperation between Italy and Croatia, enabling the development of shared and replicable approaches to last-mile logistics.
The roundtable also featured contributions from other EU-funded projects active in the Adriatic area, including DIGITPORTS and ADRIJOROUTES (Interreg Italy–Croatia), as well as AIMPRESS and CIRASIM (Interreg IPA ADRION). The discussion highlighted strong complementarities between initiatives addressing digitalisation, resilience and sustainable infrastructure planning.
Participation in the Croatian Port Days provided an important opportunity to strengthen dialogue with institutional and technical stakeholders, while promoting MILEPORT results in an international context and contributing to a shared vision of more efficient, connected and sustainable ports.
