Great turnout in Orebić for the local dissemination event

On December 17, 2024, the Municipality of Orebić hosted a successful local dissemination event, bringing together a diverse audience of local stakeholders and citizens to discuss innovative strategies and practical measures aimed at tackling the pressing issue of youth outmigration.
The Mayor of Orebić, Tomislav Ančić, opened the event with a warm welcome and an overview of the demographic challenges facing the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. He emphasized the broader socio-economic approach needed to address these issues, underscoring the M.A.R.I.O. project's vital role in fostering demographic renewal in rural areas like Orebić.
Representatives from the Municipality and the Orebić Development Agency (ORA) presented the project's key activities, objectives, and tools, highlighting the comprehensive action plan and guidelines developed to curb the outmigration of young, educated individuals. These measures, jointly developed by all project partners, aim to ensure the long-term sustainability and revitalization of local communities.
The event featured an in-depth discussion on current migration trends, specifically related to Dubrovnik-Neretva County: participants explored integrated territorial approaches to attracting and retaining young talent, focusing on supporting young families, improving education and employment opportunities, and leveraging digital tools to enhance quality of life. Additionally, during this interactive discussion, participants provided valuable feedback to be considered in drafting the project's guidelines, aimed at developing a joint action plan to address the issue of outmigration across all regions involved in M.A.R.I.O.
The dissemination event in Orebić not only informed stakeholders about the M.A.R.I.O. project's strategic goals but also fostered a constructive dialogue that will shape the project's future steps. The active participation and insightful contributions of the attendees will play a crucial role in the project's sustainability phase, paving the way for cross-border collaboration in addressing a shared challenge that transcends national boundaries.
