Call to participate in Training programme on Alternative Livelihoods and Pescatourism in MAPAs

24/12/2025

The MAPA project partners invites professional and small-scale coastal fishers, bivalve collectors, recreational fishers interested in pescatourism, and organizations committed to sustainable fishing practices from pilot areas in Croatia and Italy to express interest in participating in a training programme promoting sustainable use of marine resources and strengthening the role of local communities in marine conservation.

The training programme consists of three modules totalling 14 hours, plus a pilot action testing pescatourism activities. Developed in Croatian, Italian, and English, it is implemented under project activities

  • Activity 3.3: Development of pilot action plan and joint training programme
  • Activity 3.4: Pilot action

Programme objectives: As part of a joint cross-border initiative to promote sustainable use of marine resources and strengthen local communities' role in sea conservation, the training focuses on alternative income sources – particularly stakeholder collaboration for marine environmental protection. It engages key stakeholders as partners in improving management of marine protected areas (MPAs), especially those whose economic and social wellbeing depends on sustainable marine resources. Through targeted training and knowledge exchange, participants will learn to become guardians of the marine environment and natural assets, gaining insight into the role of sustainable practices in nature and marine conservation.

The programme builds partnerships among key stakeholders for effective MPA management and monitoring, while fostering a network of marine protection ambassadors across the Adriatic region. Certified participants may join pescatourism simulations through field trips and testing with "mock" clients.
