END DATE

31.03.2022

TOTAL BUDGET

€ 2.200.000 €

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

LEAD PARTNER

Institute for Transport and Logistics (ITL)

TARGET GROUPS

  1. Local, regional and national public authorities
  2. Transport service providers
  3. Regional development agencies, regional innovation agencies and local chambers of commerce
  4. Transport associations
  5. Commuters, tourists, regional citizens, students and general public

ICARUS aimed at improving passenger intermodal transport connections and easing coast-hinterland sustainable accessibility, promoting car-independent lifestyles.

The project fought against problems generated by the massive use of private cars by introducing solutions based on innovative technologies to adapt smart mobility in a digital world. Moreover, it strived to activate a behavioral change in mobility, using the “Mobility as a Service” which is a concept representing the shift from personally owned modes of transportation towards mobility solutions that are consumed as a service.

Sustainable multimodal seamless solutions were tested through 7 pilot actions consisting in harmonisation of timetables, availability of car/bike sharing within transport nodes, innovative ICT solutions for seamless flow of information, integrated intelligent multimodal payment systems, dynamic travel planning and cross-border intermodal services.

ICARUS KICK OFF MEETING

Published on 09/07/2019 (last modified 30/07/2019)

ICARUS Partners gathered in Venice to officially launch project activities starting from the identification of gaps and needs in both countries to involving transport authorities in testing new or extended services to improve multimodal connections in the area.

Car transport represents 80% of land transport in EU 28 and is expected to grow, causing accidents, congestion and pollution. Fighting against this problems calls for an immediate improvement of transport services and changes in behaviors from different perspectives: users and transport operators. For this reason 10 institutions coming from Italy and Croatia joined forces to improve passenger intermodal transport connections and ease coast hinterland sustainable accessibility to promote car-independent lifestyles. The project was officially launched with the kick off meeting on 27-28 March 2019 in Venice, where partners started analyzing the current state of the art with the aim of identifying gaps and needs of the territories and involving authorities and transport operators in testing new or extended services to improve multimodal connections in the area. On a later stage 8 pilot actions and a case study will be implemented focusing on timetables harmonization, car/bike sharing within transport nodes, ICT solutions for seamless flow of information, integrated intelligent multimodal payment systems, dynamic travel planning and cross-border intermodal services.  These activities will be tested in the regions of Emilia-Romagna, Abruzzo, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Primorsko-Goranska, Istarska, Sibensko-Kninska and Splitsko-Dalmatinska.

New Facts and Figures

VIDEO

E-CHAIN, ICARUS and MIMOSA, three Interreg Italy-Croatia projects highlighted their solutions, and some of its main results while sharing the pilot actions that were carried out in these years. The speakers dealt also with Covid19 and how it affected the transport sector.

ICARUS 5th webinar dealt with this new trend of Demand Responsive Transportation to meet the needs of those users that do not use the public transportation either because of the waiting hours or travel time. Mr. Joshua Biondi, Business Develoment Manager at Shotl explained how solutions such as first mile - last mile or  DRT night service, DRT service outside the "peak hours" have proven to be the right mean to convince other users in using such a service and increase operator's revenues at the same time.

Hear all about it in the video!

ICARUS ETP Participants expressed their interest to learn more about EU funding opportunities for mobility projects. For that purpose a training webinar with Ms. Angelica Mazzina was held on April 14th 2021.

How can open data be used in transport planning? Which kind of data are available?

ICARUS 3rd webinar held on June 19th 2020 deals with the public transport strategies and ICT solutions as well as with problems during and after COVID-19

ICARUS 2nd webinar was held by prof. Patrick Rerat, from the University of Lausanne on May 26th  2020
